Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is triumphing around the world. However, this technological revolution is going to have a direct impact on the pockets of common people. Technology giant Apple has indicated to increase the price of its products due to the skyrocketing production cost of memory chips.
Tim Cook, the company’s outgoing CEO, said the current situation in the memory chip market has become so “unbearable” that they have no choice but to raise product prices.
In an interview given to the Wall Street Journal, he said that the supply of chips in the market is low, but the demand for AI technology is huge. Memory chip manufacturers are relentlessly raising prices, which Apple is ultimately forced to pass on to consumers.
World-renowned chip makers TSMC and Samsung had earlier hinted at a rise in prices of electronics products due to the chip crisis. RAM prices have more than doubled in the global market since October 2025 till now. On top of that, the ongoing war situation in Iran has severely disrupted the supply of helium gas, an essential ingredient for making semiconductors, which has further heated up the chip market.
The announcement of the price increase came at a time when the sales of the iPhone 17 series in the global market are very busy. In the first three months of 2026, Apple’s sales have increased by about 17 percent compared to last year. However, as a result of this new decision, how much the price of the iPhone 18 series, which will be released in the market next September, will increase, has already started to worry among technology lovers. Already, this American technology giant has increased the price of Mac mini computer, which was released in the market at the beginning of this year, by about 200 dollars.
