Apple lags behind other companies when it comes to using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. And so Apple can create AI agents capable of automatically completing various tasks for users to stay ahead of the AI competition. Not only that, Apple’s AI agent could become a rival to the currently discussed agentic AI platform ‘OpenClaw’. Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, known as an Apple expert, reported this information in a report.
According to Mark Gurman, Mike Rockwell, head of engineering for the digital assistant Siri, said at Apple’s annual developer conference WWDC recently that new capabilities will be added to Siri in the future. From his statement, it is assumed that the version of Siri that is currently being used is not its final form. On the other hand, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, Craig Federighi, did not rule out the company’s interest in agentic AI technology. However, he clarified that Apple is more concerned with ensuring a reliable and effective experience for users than being the first to join any new technological trend.
Apple has already significantly increased the capabilities of Siri in the iOS 27 operating system. However, when full-fledged agentic facilities are added, Siri will not only be limited to answering questions, but will also be able to complete various tasks on behalf of the user. In that case, Siri will be able to perform complex tasks such as managing various apps and software on iPhone, iPad and Mac, coordinating multiple tasks and executing sequential instructions.
According to technology analysts, the addition of multiple new capabilities to Siri will bring about a big change in the concept of a personal digital assistant. Although no such benefits have yet been officially announced, Marc Gurman’s analysis suggests Apple doesn’t want to be a long-term bystander in the fast-growing agentic AI market.
