One of the country’s Internet service providers, including the corporate offices of Dot Internet, has demanded punishment for terrorist attacks, vandalism and looting, extortion and network occupiers in various service providers outside Dhaka and Dhaka (ISPAB).
The leaders of the organization raised this demand at a press conference organized at the Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) office in Banani, capital, on Sunday (June 14). At the same time, they strongly condemned and protested these incidents.
In the press conference, it was informed that the attack on internet service providers in the capital’s Badda, Chandpur Sadar, Comilla’s Debidwar, Gazipur and Bogra, including the head office of dot internet at Lalmatia in Mohammadpur on the night of June 9, was not just an attack on an organization, but a direct attack on the country’s information technology infrastructure and digital economy.
According to ISPAB, during the attack, a group of terrorists entered the offices of the organizations and carried out extensive vandalism and looting. Several officials and employees of the institutions were injured and important technical equipment and infrastructure were damaged.
ISPAB President Mohammad Aminul Hakim, Secretary General Nazmul Karim Bhunya, Vice President Neyamul Haque Khan, Joint Secretary General Mahbub Alam Raju and Fuad Mohammad Sharfuddin, Treasurer Moin Uddin Ahmed, Director Rashedur Rahman Rajon, were present at the press conference. Mithu Howladar, Sabbir Ahmed, Raisul Islam Tuhin, Md. Zubair Islam and SM Saiful Islam Salim and others.
ISPAB leaders said that the ISP sector is playing an important role in providing uninterrupted internet services to billions of consumers in the country. Such attacks have raised serious concerns about the sector’s security, investment climate and service continuity.
In the press conference, ISPAB outlined six demands to the government. The organization said that those involved in the attack should be quickly identified and arrested. Exemplary punishment should be ensured against the criminals. Security should be strengthened considering IT and Internet infrastructure as important national assets.
It was further demanded that effective measures should be taken to prevent such incidents in the future. Necessary assistance should be provided to the affected institutions to ensure their safe functioning. The concerned local police station should take immediate action in case of such activities in the ISPs.
It was said in the press conference that it is very important to ensure the security of the institutions of the information technology sector at this time of the country’s digital transformation and the formation of a technology-based economy. Otherwise there may be negative impact on both investment and services.
The organization hopes that the government and law enforcement agencies will take swift action to ensure proper investigation and prosecution of the incident and play an effective role in the safe development of the IT sector in the country.
