Tech giant Google has announced the farewell to the two older models soon after launching the new ‘Google Home Speaker’ with artificial intelligence or AI technology. The company has confirmed that they are permanently discontinuing the production of their older smart speakers ‘Nest Home Mini’ and ‘Nest Audio’.

According to market analysts, Google’s current strategy is to roll out its own artificial intelligence chatbot ‘Gemini’ to all types of devices. As part of that plan, the company is discontinuing production of the five-year-old Nest series of speakers and focusing on a new generation of Jamie-powered speakers. Earlier, Nest Mini was launched in 2019 as an improved version of Google Home Mini which was launched in 2017.

Google has assured that even if the production is stopped, the old speakers currently in the market or in the homes of the customers will continue to work. A company spokesperson said Nest Mini and Nest Audio devices already sold will continue to receive regular software updates, security patches and customer care. Apart from this, Google’s new ‘JMI for Home’ technology will also work on these older devices.

Google’s new Google Home speaker is priced at $100, which is the same as the outgoing Nest Audio. However, it is quite expensive compared to the Nest Home Mini, as the retail price of the Nest Home Mini was only $50 and was often available for less. As a result, due to this decision of Google, ordinary customers are losing the opportunity to buy cheap smart speakers.
