Despite the increasing concern and debate around artificial intelligence (AI) around the world, the progress of the popular chatbot ChatGPT has not stopped. This service created by OpenAI set a new record as the fastest app in history to exceed 100 million monthly users in just three and a half years of its launch.
According to market research firm ‘Sensor Tower’, ChatGPT reached this milestone in May after launching in November 2022. It took almost five years for Google Maps to get the same number of users.
In February, OpenAI reported that their web and mobile platforms combined had more than 90 million weekly active users. Currently, ChatGPT is six times ahead of its nearest competitors in terms of monthly web visits and mobile sessions.
User growth rates for Google’s Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude and Meta AI are also notable. According to Sensor Tower, ChatGPT’s annual user growth rate is 62 percent, while Cloud and Meta AI’s growth is 640 and 973 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, the ChatGPT uninstall rate rose nearly 295 percent per day in February due to the controversy over OpenAI’s military contract with the Pentagon. At that time, Anthropic’s Claude also surpassed ChatGPT in the number of downloads in the United States. However, ChatGPT still has a strong position in the market in terms of user numbers.
